Wheaton Park District was honored with the National Gold Medal Award three times in 1984, 1990 and 1996. The district also was awarded the National Excellence in Aquatics Award in 1991, and the United States Department of Interior Innovation Award for the Lincoln Marsh Wetlands Project in 1993. Wheaton Park District, incorporated in 1921, provides recreational services and opportunities to the residents of the district. The district s services include more than 800 recreational programs each year, park management, capital development, environmental conservation and general administration. Wheaton Park District operates several recreational facilities, which includes approximately 50 parks, as well as the Rice Pool & Water Park, Community Center, Northside Park Family Aquatic Center, Arrowhead Golf Club, Cosley Zoo, Leisure Center and Lincoln Marsh Natural Area. The district also maintains a variety of softball and baseball diamonds, football and soccer fields, tennis courts, playgrounds and picnic areas.
