Westphalia Electric, Inc stresses customer service, open from 8: 00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m., Monday through Friday and providing 24-hour emergency service. "We know that emergencies don't just happen during business hours, " John Lehman, firm president, said. "When we have a customer, we've made a commitment to that customer, and that includes 24 hours a day and weekends." In addition to Lehman, also involved in Westphalia Electric are owners Joe Lehman, Bernie Lehman, John Arens, Dean Miller, Neal Miller, and Germaine Miller. They all agree on this, Lehman said, "We re here to serve our customers any way we can. We offer mainly electrical contracting, and electrical maintenance and repairs. We try to provide as much service as we can to the central Michigan area." The staff which helps the business maintain its commitment to service includes Tom Schrauben, Electrician ; Leon Theis, Farm Specialist ; Jim Stump, Mitch Bierstetel, Bob Theis, Tom Smith, and Ryan Schneider, Apprentices ; Matt Bertram, Computer Specialist ; and Cindy Hanses and Dana Platte who take care of Administration. The family-oriented business was started in 1949 by Gerald ( Bud ) Miller. In 1986, the business moved from 119 W. Main Street to the present location at 101 E. Main Street. Lehman said he feels Westphalia Electric is unique because of its family orientation and its service range. "We offer a board range of residential, industrial, commercial and agriculture services and products. The people here cover a broad spectrum of electrical industry. We also offer a broad range of additional services, including telecom and data wiring, computer network support, feed handling equipment, and generators. Westphalia Electric watches technological advances and new products. "As the market warrants and new products are introduced, we adapt them into our business. Our customers depend on us to furnish the latest and best technology and equipment for their applications." Staff members also continually enhance their education in the field. "Our education in this industry is continuous, " Lehman said. "We've been involved in all types of training programs for all phases of our industry."
