Established in 1970, The Newton County Water & Sewerage Authority is a part of the state legislature. Based in Covington, Ga., the authority functions under a number of departments, including Water Reclamation, Engineering and Water/Sewer Maintenance. The Water Reclamation division performs sewer effluent pretreatment services. The Water Maintenance division is responsible for the installation/repair of water and sewer utilities inside the authority's service area. The Newton County Water & Sewerage Authority serves an area consisting of 650 miles of various sized water mains and 110 miles of sewer outfalls, with over 22,000 water customers and more than 6,000 sewer customers.
