SERVICE SINCE 1868 Wallingford Fire Department proudly protects approximately 50, 000 people living in an area of approximately 40 square miles. We operate out of 6 stations that protect a primarily residential area. There is also a good amount of industry in business parks and commercial properties, especially along the Route 5 corridor. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. There are 60 career Firefighters, 40 Volunteer firefighters. The fire department promotes health and wellness programs with complete physical exams as required by OSHA and the National Fire Protection Association's 1500 standard on Firefighter Health and Safety. We have an ISO rating of a very favorable 3, helping keep insurance rates low ! The organization derives it's strengths from a diverse group of people. These dedicated individuals are responsible for protection of Life & Property within The Town Of Wallingford. These talented Firefighters respond from six strategically located stations to approximately 6000 emergencies a year. Wallingford Fire Department also responds an advanced life support ambulance staffed with a minimum of 1 EMT & 1 Paramedic. As of January 1, 2009 the WFD will staff atleast one Paramedic per career engine for Advanced Life Support Engines. The Wallingford Fire Department presently has 25 Paramedics, 35 EMTs. The Wallingford Fire Department also has a Public Fire Education Committee to deliver fire safety programs to schools & civic organizations. These programs have been highly successful in teaching our children how to use the 911 system & reinforce an attitude of Fire Safety ! The department interacts with industry to minimize the effects of fire, chemical releases, and other Emergencies. These programs include fire extinguisher training, assistance in emergency planning, and joint training with fire brigades. The Fire Prevention Bureau is available to assist with plans review, permits, hazard abatement programs and fire investigation.
