VIU is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
ACICS is a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education, and VIU s accreditation through ACICS automatically entitles VIU to recognition by the US Department of Education.
Due to its national accreditation status, VIU has also been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Recognition by CHEA affirms that standards and processes of accrediting organizations are consistent with quality, improvement, and accountability expectations that CHEA has established.
VIU is certified to operate in Virginia by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
