Established in 1965, the United States Secret Service is a law enforcement agency headquartered in Washington, D.C. The United States Secret Service provides protection to presidents, vice presidents and visiting foreign officials. It operates a threat assessment center that offers programs to promote the standardization of federal, state and local threat assessment investigations. In addition, the agency has a forensic laboratory that is accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors. The United States Secret Service maintains more than 150 offices throughout the United States.
