United Mountain Horse, Inc was formed in September 2000 by members of the existing breed associations who were interested in having an organization especially dedicated to unifying all Mountain Horses. This organization would support and educate all Mountain Horse breeders, exhibitors, trainers and horse enthusiasts. United Mountain Horse, Inc would be an organization where all may showcase their registered Rocky Mountain, Mountain Pleasure and Kentucky Mountain Horses in unity. UMH now operates or sanctions the vast majority of all Mountain Horse shows, with both nationally and regionally sanctioned High Point circuits across the country. A UMH Regional program was established in 2002 and serves 14 Regions with Representatives across the country that are working to educate the public and promote the Rocky Mountain, Kentucky Mountain and the Mountain Pleasure Horse. UMH provides educational training videos, publications, clinics, trail rides, shows and breed demonstrations that have been successful. UMH has established the Breeders Cup program as another service to support all registered Mountain Horses The American Gaited Mountain Horse LLC, was formed also as a unifiying service to the Mountain Horse breeds. This service records bloodlines and registration numbers for the past, present and future historical preservation of the Mountain Horse. The historical heritage ancestry parentage for the Mountain Horse is a record to continue the preservation and to educate many about this unique breed. The American Gaited Mountain Horse LLC , certificate of lineage captures the heritage, breed origins, show and trail accomplishments, and the achieved Merit Awards for the horse on one certificate. The Mountain Horse have been preserved in the Appalachian area for centuries by dedicated horsemen who appreciate the Mountain Horse natural gait, kind temperament, willingness and hardiness. These gentle Mountain Horse were the foundation of the American gaited horses and breeds known today as the American Saddlebred and the Tennessee Walking Horses. They are still prized for their unique abilities both on the trail, cross country, obstacle and show competitions. AGMH is headquartered with UMH in Winchester, KY on the grounds of the "new" Equestrian Center. The Center is a short drive from from Lexington KY, Kentucky Horse Park, Pilot Knob, Natural Bridge State Park and the breathtaking Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Park.
