Founded in 1943 as the Salt River Valley Blood Bank, United Blood Services is a nonprofit community blood center, which provides blood, blood components and special services to patients in more than 500 hospitals in 18 states. More than 15 million people in communities throughout United States depend on its volunteer blood donors and staff to ensure lifesaving blood is available when and where it is needed. The center uses special blood collection technology and tools to customize donation processes for each donor. It also coordinates blood drives and encourages champion donors with a Hero in Us reward program. Blood Systems, its national headquarter, is one of the leaders in the blood banking industry.
