Union Pacific Railroad is an operating subsidiary of Union Pacific Corporation. It is one of the largest railroads in North America, operating in the western two-third of the United States. The railroad serves more than 20 states, linking every major West Coast and Gulf Coast port and provides service to the east through its four major gateways in Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans. Additionally, Union Pacific Railroad operates key north corridors and is the only railroad to serve all six major gateways to Mexico. It also interchanges traffic with the Canadian rail systems. It transports agricultural, industrial, automotive and chemical products. The company provides commodity transportation services, as well as operates a commuter train operation in Chicago. Union Pacific Railroad has more than 40,000 employees and is one of the largest haulers of chemicals and intermodal carriers in the U.S. Its clients include APL Limited and General Motors.
