Joseph Anthony (Tony) Rodriguez graduated from The University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2007. While in law school, Mr. Rodriguez's excellence in academics landed him a partial academic scholarship and secured him a job as a teaching assistant. Mr. Rodriguez worked for the Student Law Office representing clients in various criminal cases and received an award as one of the top student attorneys at The University of Denver. Mr. Rodriguez spent time as a judicial law clerk for the Office of Administrative Courts and also worked for the Denver Public Defender's Office. Working at the Public Defender's Office continued to give Mr. Rodriguez courtroom and trial experience in criminal cases while in school. Furthermore, the experience Mr. Rodriguez gained from representing low-income clients at the Public Defender's Office provided him with a foundation for providing affordable legal services in his current practice. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Rodriguez also earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver in 2006.
After law school, Mr. Rodriguez quickly became a Deputy District Attorney for Pueblo County and was placed in charge of an entire county court division. During his time as a Deputy District Attorney, Mr. Rodriguez handled thousands of misdemeanor cases including many jury trials and motion hearings. Having been a prosecutor gives Mr. Rodriguez an advantage in his current practice allowing him to better represent his clients because he knows and understands what a District Attorney is trying to do.
After his time at the District Attorney's Office, Mr. Rodriguez brought his skills to a private law firm in Denver where he worked almost exclusively doing criminal defense work representing clients in all types of misdemeanor, felony and traffic cases. Mr. Rodriguez has now brought his knowledge and skills into his own private practice with the goal of providing competent and affordable criminal defense representation.
