The Island Packet is a subsidiary of The McClatchy Company, a newspaper and Internet publisher headquartered in Sacramento, Calif. Building on a 147-year legacy of independence, The McClatchy Company has 12 daily and 17 community newspapers with a combined average circulation of 1.4 million daily and 1.9 million Sunday. McClatchy newspapers' many honors have included 13 Pulitzer Prizes, five of which were gold medals for public service. The company s largest newspaper is the Star Tribune in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., which it acquired in 1998.
