Practice developmentally appropriate practices by: 1. Establishing and maintaining a safe and healthly learning environment for children. 2. I promote physical and intellectual competencies in children by: (Physical)- I nuture physical and intellectual competencies in children by using a variety of developmentally appropriate equipment, learning experiences and teaching strategies to promote the physical development (fine motor and gross motor) of all children in my care. (Cognitive) - I use a variety of deveopmentally appropriate learning experiences and teaching strategies to promote curiosity, reasoning and problem-solving to lay the foundation for all later learning. (Communication)-I use a variety of developmentally appropriate learning experiences and teaching strategies to promote children's language and early literacy learning by making stories come to life during story time. The Chespeake Library Bookmobile visits monthly which includes a story read from the libriarian and opportunites for children to check out books. (Creative)-I use a variety of developmentally appropriate learning experiences and teaching strategies for children to explore music, movement and the visual arts and to develop and express their individual creative abilities. 3. I support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance by: (Self)- I develop a warm, positive, supportive and responsive relationship with each child and helps each child learn about and take pride in his or her individual and cultural identies. (Social)-I help each child function effectively in the group setting, learn to express feelings acquire social skills and make friends. I promote mutual respect among children and adults. (Guidance)-I provide a supportive environment and use effective strategies to support children's self-regulation and acceptable behaviors. I effectively intervene for children that persistent and challenging behaviors. 4. I establish positive and productive relationships with families by establishing a cooperative relationship with each child's family, engaging in two-way communication with families and encouraging family involvement in my program while supporting the child's relationship with his/her family. 5. I ensure a well-run, purposeful program that is responsive to participant needs by using obervation, documentation and planning to support children's development and learning and to ensure effective operation of the group. I am a competent organizer, record keeper, communicator and co-worker with parent(s). 6. I maintain a commitment to professionalism by making decisions based on knowledge of research-based early childhood practices, and takes advantage of opportunities to improve my knowledge and competence, both for personal and professional growth and for the benefit of children and families.
