It was 94 years ago in 1917 Paul Connor’s maternal grandfather Nino Moro bought the property and started selling Chrysler along with Pontiac, Essex, Hudson and Ford cars. His entrepreneurial and sales skills are what today would be considered a global outlook came out when he decided to purchase Stanley Steamers stateside that he ultimately sold in France. It was after World War II in 1945 Paul’s father John Connor took over the business and sold International, Nash, Rambler ,American Motors, Jeep and Renault until 1987 when Chrysler bought AMC. Paul started spending many summers polishing the buses and replacing tires – all for 50 cents a bus! “he really needed our help but I think he did it more for the lessons we learned, “he adds. By the time young Connor had graduated from Stonehill College with a Business Administration degree, he had full intention helping the family business prosper. He went on to take six college credit courses in Michigan at the Northwood Institute for Automotive Excellence . He returned home to start work in the Service Department and discovered five Jeeps lined up in front of the showroom which his father said in a disgruntled manner, “AMC made him take them.” Í don’t think he realized the cult that Jeep had and the success it could mean for us, “said Paul. One of the jeeps was an orange CJ5 with no top, no roll bar and a $5.00 dollar cigarette lighter option. The price: $5,995!When the 1977 recession came, Connor continued working in the parts department but also spent his evenings selling a few Jeeps, Pacers, Javelins, Marlins, Gremlins and Hornets. In 1978, they sold 78 Jeeps; a year later the number climbed to 130!. “My father loved those Jeeps now! “said Connor. It wasn’t very long before Connor was out of the parts department and stepping up to overseeing sales. As he says, “It was a great partnership with him overseeing Service and myself managing Sales. “ In 1992 the senior Connor brought back the Chrysler line now going full circle from 94 years ago. In 1993 after spending a summer on Cape Cod, he asked his son if it was “OK with him if he didn’t come back to work. “ Happy with the vote of confidence, his son took over the business and has continued to make it thrive based on the sound work ethic he learned from his dad.
