Our summer ordering program helps to organize this overwhelming annual ordering task for school administrators. Sharp School Services, Inc was founded in the spring of 1989 when David and Martha Sharp acquired the assets of Stephic School Services. Our history would not be complete without beginning with this previous business. Jake Stephic opened the business in 1976 and located the retail store in Hobart, Indiana. Our tradition of providing exceptional service and outstanding value really began at that time. The year 1989 found us with a small business that employed five individuals. The retail store had grown to 4, 000 square feet of merchandise. Our efforts were concentrated in Northwest Indiana and toward several select customers in Northeast and Central Indiana. Our first computer system was purchased and automation had joined our firm in December of 1989. This was a big adjustment for our staff but we soon began to realize the benefits. Our business began to grow and additional sales persons were added to cover the Lafayette area first and then the North Central Indiana customers. The size of the projects we could handle had grown steadily along with our corporate sales. The word was spreading that our company represented integrity and value for the educational market. In 1996 we were honored to receive the U.S. Small Business Administrations award for Entrepreneurial Success. Spring of 1997 brought us further accolades when we were again selected to receive this award for the entire state of Indiana. As the operation continued to grow, representatives were recruited to provide coverage in the Indianapolis market and more responsive coverage in Northwest Indiana. Our retail store staff had grown to five employees and extra staff was hired for the busy summer season. Accounting, payroll, purchasing and sales support staff had also become a requirement. Sharp School Services currently employs approximately 18 individuals and covers the Northern half of Indiana.
