Kintaro Hattori opened a clock shop in Tokyo s fabled Ginza district in 1881 and sold watches under the brand name of Seikosha. This laid the foundation for the company that would be known as the Seiko Corporation. The company currently sells watches, or timepieces as the company calls them, that utilize kinetic, analog-digital, chronograph, flight computer and perpetual calendar technologies. Flight computer technology does navigational computations, fuel consumption calculations and is 200-meter water-resistant. Perpetual calendar technology adjusts month-end dates automatically. The Seiko Kinetic Chronograph is the world s first chronograph powered by human movement. Seiko Corporation of America is headquartered in Mahwah, N.J.
