Seattle City Light is a municipal electric utility that provides electric services to more than 370,000 customers in the greater Seattle area. Seattle City Light was established in 1902 and became operational in 1905. Seattle City Light is supports local and regional transportation projects by relocating poles, overhead lines and underground facilities, and preparing engineering designs for the Sound Transit Link Light Rail Project and the Alaskan Way Viaduct. City Light acquired the last private electrical assets and customers within the Seattle city limits in 1950 and became a partner with public and private utilities throughout the region. City Light is supported by revenues from its customers and not a taxable base.
