The Public Works Department at the City of Sanford, N.C., consists of twelve divisions and more than 130 employees. These divisions include engineering, sewer utilities, water utilities, fleet maintenance, beautification, building and grounds, solid waste, street maintenance, wastewater plant and water plant. The department s water treatment plant has the capacity to treat 12 million gallons of water per day. The wastewater treatment plant has a permitted capacity of 6.8 million gallons per day. The Public Works Department's purpose is to provide essential and quality-of-life services to the citizens of Sanford, N.C.
