Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center is thrilled to announce a very special weekend workshop with renowned naturalist, tracker, master storyteller, and author, Jon Young. The workshop begins Friday October 1, 2010, at Walking Bear Resort in Whitefish, MT. It runs through Sunday afternoon, October 3. Jon is the founder of Seattle's Wilderness Awareness School ( WAS ) and co-author of Coyotes Guide to Connecting with Nature. Ravenwood is a WAS affiliate school and utilizes Jon Young's unique Eight Shields mentoring model in its popular programs for area youth and adults. Course topics will include the core routines of nature awareness, the basics of the Eight Shields model and the vital role of mentoring in the development of strong and resilient communities. The Eight Shields model, with its emphasis on mentoring and first-hand experience, provides participants a fun and meaningful way to approach knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds, and basic wilderness survival. Learn how to work together as mentors for your children, students, neighbors, or grandkids and help lay a foundation for a future where our children know their own gifts and talents, are highly engaged in learning and their community, and respect nature and their place in it.
