Pocahontas Land Corporation (PLC) is a natural resource subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corporation. PLC owns nearly 1 million acres of land containing coal in West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia, Alabama and Tennessee. Its coal mining lessees produces approximately 25 million tons of coal annually. Pocahontas Land Corporation also manages oil and gas reserves owned of the parent company and its other subsidiaries. Norfolk Southern Corporation is one of the leading transportation companies in the United States. The parent company s subsidiary, Norfolk Southern Railway, operates more than 21,000 route miles in over 20 U.S. states. In addition, it is one of the largest rail carriers of metals and automotive products in North America.
