Jackson Paper Company was founded in 1921 by Mr. Harvey Newell. Newell's employees started off selling industrial paper products like paper towels, toilet paper and cups, later adding fine printing paper, janitorial supplies and equipment to the list. Today, the company sells more than 7,000 different products to its customers under three primary product lines: fine printing papers, industrial grade papers and janitorial supplies and equipment. In 1946, the company expanded its operation by opening the Newell Paper Company in Meridian, MS. The "Newell" name has since been expanded to include operations in Columbus, Hattiesburg, and Demopolis, AL. Our Columbus branch was built in 1968. Later, the company acquired Bruce Paper Company in Hattiesburg, MS. in May of 1985. That branch now operates as Newell Paper Company of Hattiesburg. The Demopolis, AL. location was opened in October of 1995 and additional Alabama territory is served from that location. Most recently, in 2009, the company acquired Harris Industrial Products and Packaging in Flowood, MS., a move which has dramatically increased the Corporation's offering of industrial packaging supplies. Throughout the decades, Newell continues to add brands to its product offering. Such additions include: laundry and ware-wash chemicals, automated dispensing systems, even swimming pool chemicals and supplies. The company also has service technicians to provide support for all the equipment we sell. Newell Paper has aligned itself with most of the major manufacturers for each type of product and has an unusually wide product offering that is backed by an outside sales force of over 40 trained and experienced sales people. The company also has a fleet of over 40 trucks and maintains an impressive delivery schedule for all of its territories. In 1999, Jackson/Newell Paper Company was in the top 100 privately owned companies in Mississippi. Today the company, which is owned entirely by its employees as a privately held corporation, covers a market area that includes over 8,000 customers in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. As Jackson/Newell Paper Company looks to the future, the philosophy that has made it successful remains unchanged: To observe the Golden Rule and to give back to the community. Each year, the company funds a separate, non-profit foundation to support the communities in which we operate.
