Through independent exploration, structured activities, and hands-on learning, preschoolers develop early literacy, mathematics, science and social skills. A healthy dose of running, jumping, and dancing keeps them active, too. I use word cards and photos to present new words; introduce high-quality children's literature to promote a love of reading; encourage your pre-school child to practice writing letters and words; help your child recognize and read his or her own name; and use read-aloud times to practice reading. I encourage the exploration of the physical properties of materials; use daily calendar activities to teach about sequence of events, patterns, and routines; and support the learning of cognitive skills such as counting, estimating, making predictions, testing, and drawing conclusions. I use lacing cards, stencils, and writing activities to enhance fine-motor skills; strengthen coordination and gross-motor skills through running, jumping, and throwing activities; improve balancing skills using hula hoops and balance beams; and offer healthy food choices for snacks and meals.
