The National Mining Association was formed in 1995 with the merger of the National Coal Association and the American Mining Congress. It is a national trade organization that represents the interests of mining before the administration, federal agencies, judiciary and media. The organization s membership includes more than 300 corporations that are involved in the various aspects of mining industry, including coal, equipment manufacturers, and metal and industrial mineral producers and processors. The National Mining Association also serves as an information center for the U.S. mining industry. Its staff is comprised of several lobbyists, litigators, and regulatory and communication experts. The organization is governed by a board of directors that is responsible for the formulation of industry policies. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
