General Info:
In the early 1970's, John Edgar known by his eclectic circle of friends as “Pejuta" a Lakota Indian word meaning "medicine", travelled across the continent of Africa with his beautiful new bride, Bonnie Jean in a 1957 Morris Cowley they had bought from an old retired policeman for about $150.00 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The adventures were many and the stories iconic, leaving lasting memori... es and the seeds, that would lay the foundations of what would become over thirty years later, a brand that is still thriving today.
Inspired with the simple makings of an East African mosquito net, and with the help of his friend in Key West, Florida, Pejuta introduced to the fashion world a whimsical and romantic bed canopy, the MOMBASA MAGIC, that captured the attention of movie stars and the interior design world alike.
Business grew and sales exploded, and Pejuta needed the expertise of a gifted manager to oversee what had ignited. Some say it was a stroke of luck and others believe divine providence, but a capable and eager young man named Niven entered the scene, and a friendship was quickly struck. Niven instinctively could make out the cents of business sense, and it soon became obvious that they should join forces. Together, a Dreamer and a Captain, beating the odds and navigating the seas of the American dream.
Fast forward to today, seeds of a new generation and vision have sprouted. Life is alive and ambitious at MOMBASA. Our culture and products have expanded, becoming even more about lifestyle, more about people, and focusing on our future and leaving a lasting legacy.
