Montgomery County Department of Parks is one of the departments of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The parks department oversees the acquisition, development and management of a park system. It also provides the county residents with open space for recreational opportunities and natural resources stewardship. The department has more than 32,000 acres of land under its acquisition and management. It has various divisions and management areas, such as maintenance, natural resources, park planning and resource analyses and park police. Its natural resources division operates countywide providing program management and operational services in horticulture, arboriculture, landscaping, nursery production, public gardens, stormwater management and natural resources management. In addition, Montgomery County Department of Parks provides consultations through its natural resources division to the engineering, design and planning staffs and to citizens and other agencies and departments on tree and wildlife management and environmental issues.
