MarkWest Hydrocarbon is an energy holding company primarily focused on growing its operating arm, MarkWest Energy Partners. Through this subsidiary, the company is engaged in gathering, processing and transporting natural gas; transporting and storing natural gas liquids; and gathering and transporting crude oil. The company also markets natural gas and natural gas liquids. MarkWest Energy Partners, a publicly traded master limited partnership with a solid core of midstream assets and a growing core of gas transmission assets, is one of the largest processors of natural gas in the Northeast and is the largest gas gatherer of natural gas in the prolific Carthage field in east Texas. It also has a growing number of other gas gathering and intrastate gas transmission assets in the Southwest, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma. MarkWest Hydrocarbon and MarkWest Energy Partners both trade on the American Stock Exchange under the symbols MWP and MWE respectively. MarkWest Hydrocarbon has headquarters in Denver.
