Our Beginnings
Kyle, Jeremy and Michael,
Michael J. Malpezzi has been a funeral director serving the Mechanicsburg and West Shore communities since 1977. After fifteen years of helping families through the life changing events such as the death of a loved one, Michael decided to start his own funeral home in 1994. He has many ideas how he wants to provide service and assistance to these families in transition. Michael understands each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to him. With these thoughts and goals, he operates his current facility, Malpezzi Funeral Home, off south Market Street in Mechanicsburg.
Through the past thirty years, many families have turned to Michael in time of need for funeral arrangements, both traditional services as well as memorial services. Many more individuals have begun pre-planning their own funeral arrangements, including selections of readings and types of services.
In 2002, Michael hired Jeremy J. Shartzer, who was just finishing his funeral internship in the Harrisburg area. After a year of interviewing candidates, Michael found he and Jeremy shared the same goals and ideas toward helping families arrange for funeral services. Jeremy has been the perfect complement to Michael's business.
Michael and Jeremy are both first generation funeral directors, choosing this profession out of compassion for family experiences. Together, Michael and Jeremy provide many kinds of funeral services to families.
Kyle Knipe joined Malpezzi Funeral Home as a funeral director, having graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in September 2007. Kyle began working part-time for Michael while attending college. He also understand the importance of the services provided by Malpezzi Funeral Home.
In June of 2007, Michael began offering a continuing care service, called "Families in Transition". Debbie Karns helps in this area, visiting families and listening. She offers families resources they may need to cope with the death of a loved one. To those interested, we can provide reading materials. For people needing something more, we have a list of resources, such as the Caring Foundation, and other grief counseling centers.
