Created by the State Legislature in 1979, the agency works to provide stable and economical supplies of electric power and energy for municipalities. The Louisiana Energy and Power Authority works to provide its member communities with firm, stable sources of electricity at the lowest possible cost. It operates a computerized energy control center that dispatches electricity to participating member cities simultaneously. The agency s member cities are Houma, Kaplan, Welsh, Winnfield, New Roads, Vinton and Jonesville in Louisiana. The Louisiana Energy and Power Authority is located in Lafayette, La.
