The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization dedicated to improving government and impacting public policies through citizen education and advocacy. LWV is a grassroots organization that works at the national, state and local levels. The 900 state and local divisions comprise a vast grassroots lobby corps that can be mobilized when necessary. The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the LWV is political and works to influence policy through advocacy. The League of Women Voters is an advocate for issues, such as campaign finance reform, civil liberties, election reform, lobby reform and ethics, redistricting reform, voting rights, wildlife refuge and clean air. The organization was founded in 1920 and has headquarters in Washington, D.C.
