General Info:

Welcome to Kilauea Lodge – a Historic Hawaii Inn & Restaurant Kilauea Lodge once housed Hawaii’s children during their Volcano explorations. Originally built in 1938 for the YMCA, Camp Hale O Aloha was a gracious ten acre retreat. Thousands of youngsters experienced Kilauea’s wonders by day and, warmed by the Fireplace of Friendship, told Pele myths and spooky stories by night. Little did they know this property would grow to become the most cherished Big Island lodge. Camp Hale O Aloha and the Fireplace of Friendship In October of 1938, four hundred people from around the Territory of Hawai’i gathered at Camp Hale O Aloha in Volcano Village for the dedication of a unique fireplace. The International Fireplace of Friendship with its stones and coins from all over the world was the inspiration of Harold Lucas, the Y.M.C.A. camp director in charge of construction at Camp Hale O Aloha. Lucas’s dream was to create a hearth of world brotherhood using stones from 32 countries around the world. Purchased by Lorna and Albert Jeyte in 1986, the Kilauea Lodge was refurbished to welcome visitors from all over the world as a new resort in Hawaii. The guest rooms reflect upcountry charm with a commitment to warmth and peacefulness. Locally raised, Lorna taught school before making a mid-life switch to innkeeping. German born Albert, an Emmy winning make-up artist, and Lorna bought the property on their honeymoon. Kilauea Lodge is only one mile from Volcanoes National Park, and offers nearby volcano explorations, hiking, bird watching, wine tasting, golfing, and much more. Kilauea Lodge also serves as an excellent base for exploring Hawai’i Island (also known as “The Big Island”) and is only 45 minutes from the town of Hilo, famed for its tropical lushness, quaint storefronts, and cascading waterfalls. After a busy day hiking and exploring the Volcano area, come relax in our hot tub, then enjoy dinner at one of the finest restaurants in Hawaii. Owner-Chef Albert offers a menu which reflects a marriage of his European background and local flavors. The Fireplace of Friendship, with its precious collection of artifacts, provides the setting for fabulous dinners served nightly. View the menu for tonight!
