J. Walter is a source for abrasives and chemical tools for the metal working industry. It was founded in 1952 as J. Walter Company Limited in Montreal. In 1977, the company introduced one of the first flexible grinding wheels to the United States market. It followed that by introducing one of the first high-speed sanding systems to the U.S. market in 1981. J. Walter was established in Hartford, Conn., in 1990 and, by 1995, had developed one of the first flap discs with trimmable backing. It introduced an abrasive line finishing system and an industrial electro-chemical weld cleaning system in the late 1990s. A bioremediation part cleaning systems was introduced in 2001, and a flap disc with integral threaded hub was introduced in 2002. In 2005, the company introduced the SST Icecut annular cutters.
