General Info:

Lumber and Timbers When you need quality that is second to none, IGL Recycled Timbers will exceed all of your expectations. About Us The Gammon family has been in the construction and woodworking business for three generations. Our grandfather was a master builder in Rhode Island during the early 1900's. Our father was a jack of all trades and spent the last fifteen years of his career as a construction superintendent in Southern California. Russ apprenticed under our father and ran a successful general contracting business in the sixty's. Russ Gammon moved to the Wood River Valley in 1971 from Newport Beach, California. After ten years as a general contractor it was time for a change. He visited all the major ski areas in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. Russ chose to move to Sun Valley because it was the farthest ski area he liked from California. After one year working as a finish carpenter he started Ketchum Millwork and built cabinets and custom doors for the area. Chris Gammon followed his brother to Sun Valley after graduating from UCSB in 1974. Like many "ski bums" he was only going to stay for one season. Chris worked for his brother for two years and discovered he had a talent for wood working. He became a partner in Ketchum Millwork in 1976, Russ ran the office and Chris ran the shop. Needing more space and with an eye to the future Russ and Chris purchased the old Carey Grain Elevator in Carey, Id. Remodeled it and moved the business to Carey. In 1980 they purchased a small laminated beam company from Filer Id. And renamed it Idaho Glulam Inc. ( IGL ). From 1980 through 1996 Russ and Chris produced premium laminated beams for the high end residential home markets throughout the intermountain region. During this time customers began to have IGL resize and mill their recycled timbers with the large wood working machinery used in the beam plant. As home owners and builders became more environmentally aware these requests grew. Russ and Chris decided at this time to stock a few truck loads of recycled timbers. In 1992 IGL Recycled Timbers was incorporated. Four years later they shut down the Glulam business to concentrate on the recycled timbers. Both Russ and Chris were glad to be recycling instead of consuming wood. IGL has grown to be 35, 000 sq. ft. of shop space and warehouse on 13 acres with 1, 750, 000 board feet of timbers in stock. Russ is now retired and spends most of his time in Mexico chasing fish. Chris now runs the business with the help of a dedicated crew, most of whom have been with IGL for over ten years. He still manages to spend a few days on the hill skiing or in the back country snow kiting. As the country slowly accepts the benefits of living and building with environmentally green products IGL Recycled Timbers will be proudly lead the way into the future.
