Founded in 1917, Hinds Community College is one of the largest community colleges in Jackson, Miss and serves more than 17,000 students. It provides occupational programs for unemployed, employed and underemployed adults. Hinds Community College also conducts short courses, seminars, workshops and industrial start-up training programs for the educational, business, industrial and service needs of its residents. The college offers courses in journalism, marketing, mathematics, management, mining, music and psychology. It conducts classes in religion, philosophy, sociology, physics, and health and physical education. In addition, Hinds Community College offers distance learning courses. The college supports regional and local efforts to diversify and strengthen the area s economy.
