In yet another sign the local economy is revving up, a stylish and state-of-the-art new hair salon has opened in the heart of Auburn, just across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn, at 146 Turner Street. A former garage in danger of falling into dereliction, the property is now a vivid spot of life and color —and a beacon for locals looking for “one stop styling” to go from “0 to Gorgeous in under 60.”
A family project gives a classic property huge curb appeal
Nestled beside the railroad trestle at 146 Turner Street, Hair Station makes the most of the site’s previous incarnation as a garage. The building’s bright turquoise exterior and cool, ‘50s-inspired signage are your first clues that this Station is all about style: step inside to find a wonderfully bright and airy space, artfully decorated with fashion prints and touches of retro glamour, and featuring six state-of-the-art styling stations.
A third-generation stylist with Maine roots
Having grown up with a grandmother who operated her own hair salon, Hair Station owner Marlo Hewitt earned her BSBA at the University of Southern Maine before studying at the Spa Tech Institute, where she graduated at the top of her class. “It’s like any art form,” she says. “It’s a passion. For me, nothing is more rewarding than making people look and feel their best.”
Along with fellow Cosmetologist Jamie Beauparlant, Hair Station offers color, cuts, and styling for “all makes and models,” including Kera-link fusion hair extensions, manicures and pedicures, hair removal, and special styling for brides and bridal parties.
