The Home s continuing care options include independent apartments, an adult care facility and a skilled nursing facility. These occupy three separate wings in a single community residence. The apartment wing has 39 independent living units with a living room, full kitchen and bath and one or two bedrooms. The adult care facility has 83 private rooms, each with a bath with shower. It is certified by the New York State Department of Health and participates in the Supplemental Security Income Program. The nursing facility is a licensed residential health care facility and is certified by the Department of Health. Good Shepherd was formed as the result of a merger in 1968 of two smaller homes: The House of the Good Shepherd, founded in 1870; and the Fairview Home, founded in 1891 as the Home for Aged Women.
