The Florida Department of Corrections is one of the largest state prison systems in the United States. The department has more than 94,000 inmates incarcerated and over 153,000 offenders on community supervision. It operates approximately 130 facilities statewide, including nearly 60 prisons, more than 40 work and forestry camps. The Florida Department of Corrections also maintains several road prisons and treatment centers, as well as over 30 work release centers. The department employs a staff of approximately 27,000 certified correctional and probation officers. It protects public safety and supervises offenders under jurisdiction. The Florida Department of Corrections provides a variety of academic, vocational and substance abuse programs to inmates and offenders. The department is located in Arcadia, Fla.
