This historic and beautiful Denver landmark was founded in 1890 it is the lasting home for many well-known people in the Rocky Mountain Region. This preserve in the city is home to hundreds of species of wildlife and boasts over 3800 trees over 280 acres. We're located adjacent to Denver's historic Highline Canal, Fairmount's newest development, the Highline Gardens offers an inspired mix of memorial options for the families who prefer cremation. This garden offers a unique combination the history and beauty that is Fairmount with the new and innovative style that is our future. Every month we feature an interesting headstone or marker and the person who lived the life remembered. Founded in 1890, Fairmount is Denver's second oldest cemetery and, as such is the final resting place of many of Colorado's most prominent Pioneers--men and women like William Newton Byers, John Wesley Iliff, Florence Rena Sabin, Henry Moore Teller, W.A.H Loveland and David H. Moffat. Designed by German landscape architect, Reinhard Schuetze, the layout incorporates sweeping vistas in broad curved lanes thus creating a beautiful and serene park like setting. The peaceful, well maintained 280 acres offer families of any religion or walks of life a dignified surrounding in which to honor the lives of loved ones. Recently designated a Colorado Wildlife Viewing location by the Division of Wildlife, the land represents an island of nature in the middle of the city. Frequent animal sightings include: deer, fox, coyote, hawk, eagle and owl as well and numerous small birds. The sanctuary supports a breathtaking variety of native and imported tress, thousands of breeds of seasonal and annual flowers.
