Entergy Texas Inc., a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Located in Beaumont, the company provides electric service to more than 400,000 customers in southeast Texas. Originally began as Gulf States Utilities, it later merged with New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. in 1994, after which the company s operations in Texas became Entergy Texas Inc. Entergy Texas Inc. owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. The company s service area covers 15,000 square miles and encompasses 27 counties. It delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
