Drum Rock Products, located in Warwick, Rhode Island has been manufacturing and blending the highest quality, and freshest batter / breader and fritter & clam cake mixes since 1950. The founding family of Drum Rock Products is the McCabe family. The McCabe family developed and perfected Fis-Chic Wonder Batter and our Fritter & Clam Cake Mix. The original McCabe family recipe used only all natural ingredients with no additives or preservatives and are we carry on the tradition today. Drum Rock History The Drum Rock in Drum Rock Products originates from a three-ton stone resembling a stone-age turtle measuring 10 feet long, 6 feet wide, and about 2 feet thick, set on top of a base rock. The top rock was believed to have been set in place by the Narragansett Indian Tribe before European settlers arrived in Rhode Island. When the stone is rocked, it is said that it can be heard as far away as Providence ( about 10 miles away ), and even across Narragansett Bay. Local Indians used the rock to drum out information to tribes in the area. It is said the Drum Rock of Warwick, RI was one of several rocks in New England that sent signals. The Indians would space rocks in range of each other so signals could be sent from one rock to the next and so on. It was sort of like a telegraph. The Drum Rock sends signals ( sounds ) when the smaller stone is rocked back and forth on top of the larger base stone. It is said that the rocking stone produces a sound like a horse cantering on frozen ground. The name sake rock of Drum Rock Products is located in the Apponaug section of Warwick RI. Over 50 years ago, the rock was repositioned on its base so it could no longer be rocked. Vandals were drumming on the rock at all hours of the night and disturbing local residents. In 1984 the rock was donated to the City of Warwick by George Pesce and Arnie Brier of Commercial Realty. They had bought the land where the Drum Rock was resting. They donated the rock and land beneath it to the city. The Drum Rock stone was repositioned on the base stone so it could sound out again. The Drum Rock was formally dedicated in a ceremony on August 18, 1984. Drum Rock Products company logo depicts an Indian standing on top of the Warwick Drum Rock. The Indian is holding a bar of gold to depict that Drum Rock products are as good as gold. Drum Rock Products Company "The mixes are all natural, always have been and will always be."
