General Info:
For Macular Degeneration:
I also have extensive experience evaluating macular degenerations and use the best equipment SD-OCT to image all forms of macular cysts, holes and epiretinal membranes. In addition I can measure the vitamin levels in the macular area to quantify the supplement of Lutein for each patient. This aggressive use of supplements has documented the absorption of nutrition reaches optimal levels. The use of oral and topical prescription medications are used prior to needing anti VEGF. Patients are seen in co-management with the retina services of Eye Foundation Hospital, RVA, and Vision America. The following treatment plan includes: Measured Vitamin D, Homocystein, Zinc, and Lutein. Genetic testing is available but is not routine.Lutein adds anti-oxidant, anti-alternate compliment factor D, and AMPK support. For Diabetic Eye Disease:I have extensive experience evaluating diabetic retinal complications and have the best equipment with the new SD-OCT to diagnose retinal thickness changes. The new micro pulse laser offers an early treatment to go with our early diagnosis. Digital retinal photography adds additional complete care. Active disease is treated in consultation with the retina services of Eye Foundation Hospital, RVA, and Vision America.Furthermore, each patient get diet counseling in accordance with the Am Diabeties Association guidelines. And each patient gets a detailed report.
This can be part of a VSP eye doctor and VSP eye exam program.
For Glaucoma:
I use a similar approach to go beyond simple pressure checks and look at the real causes and document treatment success with SD-OCT. This includes nerve fiber layer studies and ganglion cell complex thickness. Our automated visual field will track progression of glaucoma as well. Our surgical team includes the "stent" for glaucoma called MIGS and laser surgery for glaucoma, the SLT. Surgery is provided by independent surgical practices.
