The DeLand Police Department provides law enforcement services, promotes public safety and protects the rights and property of residents in DeLand, Fla. The departments criminal investigations unit is responsible for the investigation, apprehension, preparation for prosecution of criminal cases and the recovery of stolen property within the city limits. The animal services unit is responsible for picking up stray dogs and cats, investigating animal bites, abandonment, animal cruelty cases and excessive barking complaints in the incorporated limits. The police athletic league, or PAL, is a unique, non-profit joint venture between the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the DeLand Police Department and the community to provide young people with positive role models, help them build self-esteem and give them a safe place for activities. The department also has a patrol division, traffic unit, weed and seed program and a K-9 unit.
