Critical care Transport is a hospital based, inter-facility transport program for patients in the United States and world wide that require transport from one medical facility to another. Critical Care Transport has been providing medical transports for over 27 years and has transported over 37,000 patients. Jet aircraft intensive care units provide top-notch support during long-distance patient transports. For local transports, Critical Care Transport has three mobile intensive care units that maintain sophisticated, uninterrupted ICU care. Each adult medical transport team is staffed with a Registered Nurse, a Respiratory Therapist, and as needed or requested, a physician. Each team member is specially trained in aeromedical physiology. For neonatal patients requiring transport, a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, or NICU RN, and Respiratory Therapist are used to care for the critical neonatal patients. There is also an intra-aortic balloon pump team which has transported over 500 patients requiring this support. The teams have access to the 900 faculty physicians of University Hospital, named for the seventeenth year in a row in U.S. News and Report's "America's Best Hospitals".
