Homicide Section is a part of the Detective Division of the Chicago Police Department, which offers a range of life and property protection services. The department is administered by the government of the City of Chicago. It operates the Bureau of Investigative Services, which provides solutions for felonies, misdemeanors, missing persons, juvenile offenders, and unidentified and deceased persons. The department organized crime division addresses large-scale narcotics activities and vice crimes, such as gambling, prostitution and the distribution of obscene materials. It also operates the Bureau of Administrative Services, which offers data collection, criminal justice research, records management, analysis and reporting solutions. The department maintains a canine unit that searches hidden offenders and tracks suspects. In addition, the Chicago Police Department has civil rights and mounted patrol units. It administers the Police Observation Devices program that features the video surveillance of Chicago streets.
