Chemical Products, founded in 1933, processes locally-mined barite ore into various barium compounds. Compounds include barium carbonate, barium chloride and soluble sulfides, such as sodium sulfide, sodium hydrosulfide and ammonium sulfide solution. In 1961, the company added a glass furnace to manufacture sodium silicate products, such as sodium silicate glass and solutions and sodium metasilicate and pentahydrate. These products are marketed primarily in the Southeastern United States. Chemical Products also produces strontium carbonate and strontium nitrate, which are used in the pyrotechnic and pigment industries. Chemical Products maintains its headquarters in Cartersville, Ga., and a state-of-the-art strontium carbonate plant in Reynosa, Mexico.
