Champion traces its early history back to 1895 when D.J. Champion assembled a small but talented group known as Champion Rivet Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Manufacturing the world’s oldest fasteners and steel rivets, the company grew and expanded and in 1935 established a sales office in Houston, Texas serving the growing Gulf Coast area of the U.S. With the start of World War II and new fabrication technology, Thomas J. Kegg started Champion Welding and Rivet Company in 1944 to meet the new demands of the welding industry. By 1948, the company had changed to its current name of Champion Industrial Sales Company and was now focused on the growing welding supply industry. In 1950, David Champion Kegg joined his father in the company and slowly began to grow the company into its present form. Michael David Kegg joined his father in 1979 and began the third generation of CISCO. The Corpus Christi, Texas office opened in 1992 and operates a sales and service warehouse serving a wide variety of customers in the coastal bend area.
