Centaur Technology was founded in 1995 in order to develop an affordable x86 processor for the then neglected sub-$1,000 PC market. Centaur succeeded by designing the world's smallest x86 processors, making headlines in 2002 with a $199 PC from Wal-Mart.com. The company has developed 11 different parts and consistently has one of the fastest design cycles in the industry. It is also developing a two GHZ x86 processor that will put Centaur in a position to tap the booming sub-$400 PC market. Centaur Technology is a subsidiary of VIA Technologies and maintains its headquarters in Austin, Texas.
