Established in 1950, Camp Matoaka for Girls is located on East Lake in Smithfield, Maine. With a tailored program that allows each camper to progress at her own pace, Matoaka s goal is to prepare young people for a richer and fuller adult life through participation in leisure sports and cultivation of creative talents. Its state-of-the-art facilities include a gymnasium, equipped with Olympic gymnastics components; a dance studio; a modern recreation hall and dining room; a 2,700-square-foot health center that was new in 2004; and an arts center that houses arts and crafts, photography, sewing, jewelry making, needlecraft and ceramics. Its brother camp across the lake, Camp Manitou for Boys, was founded in 1947.
