Barbara Gleason, designer and illustrator BGleason Design & Illustration, LLC, has been designing printed materials, logos, creating company identity materials and helping small to medium-sized companies establish their unique "look" for over 25 years. Clients include sole proprietors, small entrepreneurial companies, educational organizations from nature centers to universities, nonprofit groups, government agencies, restaurants and retail stores from children's book and toy stores to neighborhood grocery markets.College courses in design, typography, and illustration at Drexel University and Franconia College, were followed by studies in metal and fiber craft at arts and crafts centers in New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. After moving to the West Coast, she studied at Pacific Northwest College of Art, and at the University of Oregon's computer/web-graphics and book arts programs. In the 80s she discovered scientific illustration and studied at GNSI ( Guild of Natural Science Illustrators ) intensives in Seattle.Her career has included work with design, type, and ad agencies, publishers, printers and manufacturers from Boston to San Francisco.Barbara is joined by her husband, Dan, who recently retired from his position as biology staff instructor ( University of Oregon, 30 years ). His experience gives them a strong base in biology, and he specialized in ornithology ( birds ), and continues to teach the Field Ornithology class at the UO during summer term. This biological background combined with expertise in photography and database development, give them good complementary skills as they work together in their studio in Eugene's south hills.
