Founded in 1932, the chain operates stores under the Food City, AJ s Fine Foods, Sportsman s Fine Wines & Spirits and Eddie s Country Store names. Its stores provide a variety of products, such as wines, grocery supplies, frozen goods, and food and gift items. The chain s stores also operate pharmacies that offer prescription refill and transfer options. Its stores sell products of the Bashas, Food Club, Top Care and Paws brands. In addition, the chain s stores provide gift cards and discount coupons. Bashas' Supermarkets operates a child care center for children between the ages of 2 and 10. The chain additionally maintains a nearly 16-acre distribution center that features a full-service mechanic shop. It has achieved the 2005 Retailer of the Year award from Progressive Grocer Magazine. The chain works in partnerships with Huggies, Nestle and Beech Nut.
