Bill Coots founded B & B Metals, Inc in 1989 and named the company after his new born baby boy Bill Coots III and himself. In those days Bills focus for the company was specialized scrap metal collection and resale. B & B was known for taking on the tough jobs like bridges, track abandonments, main line rail road rail, OTM and damaged barges.Bill found success through hard work and sound business practices propelling his small company to a multi-million dollar organization. After twelve years of success in the scrap industry, Bill had an inovative idea which would eventually change the enire scope of B & B Metals, IncBill had always been fascinated with the specialized machines and processes used for rail road maintenance but noticed one task still being perormed by hand, tie plate distribution. After witnessing rail road personnel distribute tie plates out by hand on many occasions, Bill realized that there had to be a more efficienct, cost effectiveway.In 2003 Bill put his experience and knowledge of mechanical eningeering to work with one goal in mind, to build a more automated tie plated distribution system. Within six months he had designed and built and patented the first working proto type which immediately began laying plates for a Class One Rail Road. With perseverance and dedication, Bill grew this branch of his company from one hi rail grapple truck with the tie plate system installed it to over twenty. Multiple design changes and trail and error led to more innovative rail road mantenance products to include a patented remote control system for grapple trucks and a high production unit which is capable of taking tie plates directly from gondolas to the ground. These units have distributed plates all across North America for each of the Class One Rail Roads.
