Situated 18 miles from Augusta, the State Capitol of Maine, 80 miles from Portland and 190 miles of Boston, the area is a commercial, cultural, industrial, medical and recreational center for an area of 150,000 people within a radius of 25 miles. Only 35 /- miles from the glorious Maine Coast and adjacent to the North-South Interstate 95, U.S. Route 201 and State Route 137, the area is a major transportation hub as well. Approximately one-half of the population of Maine lives within a 50-mile radius of the region. The area is ringed with lakes, including the famous Belgrade Lakes and China Lake, and Sugarloaf/USA, New England's premier ski resort, is just an hour's drive away
